design logic

The existing exterior glazing set the dimensions for the Conference Space, Copy Area and Reception. Skylights added additional lighting to the central interior of the space. The gypsum board furring includes shadow reveals to reduce the scale of the tall perimeter shell and to coincide with the Mezzanine Balcony wall cap.

The large interior volume is dissected by functional layers such as mechanical ventilation and lighting, and also by layers of material and color. Design elements such as shadow reveals and openings

(both in glass and wall) echo scale and proportion to link elements and planes. The unfinished floor areas reveal the previous phase of construction, providing further layering and history.

organization

The conference room, copy room and reception area are ‘boxed’ into a neat metal package. This interior building lends form to the entrance area reducing the 30’-0” high volume. Spaces contained are organized logically with the public face oriented toward the visitor. The conference space is located with reception at the front of the office. Warm red walls balance the cooling metal cladding and play reflections with transparent glazing.

An empty concrete shell provides a uniquely blank canvas. The tenant improvement works included insulating and rocking the exterior concrete walls as well as insulating and painting the exposed ceiling area.
